Vocabulary Words

Taskbar: A row of buttons or graphical controls on a computer screen that represent open programs, among which the user can switch back and forth by clicking on the appropriate one.
Title Bar: The top portion of a computer window that gives the name of the application and the file name or the name of the Internet Web site being displayed.
Shortcut Menu: The menu that appears when you right-click (Windows/Unix) or click-and-hold (Macintosh) on a Web page or within a software package.
Quick launch toolbar: A small toolbar that sits to the right of the Start menu. It contains the icons of programs you use often. To launch a program from the Quick Launch toolbar, just click on its icon.
Notification area: The notification area holds the clock and shortcuts to some programs like Volume Control. Shortcuts to some other programs appear temporarily when the program is in use.
Status bar: A strip along the bottom of a software or Internet application that indicates what is happening with a task or information like date, time, cursor or scroll position, page number, open applications, etc.
Folder: Files. Stores information. To create a new folder right-click on an empty place within the file list. From the menu that pops up, click on New and then Folder.
